KWW: Tea Breads

While surfing around for inspiration this morning, I stumbled across these two recipes... I think I might have to give them a go :)

Lavender Tea Bread
Ingredients:
3/4 cup milk
2 Tbsp. dried lavender flowers, finely chopped, or 3 Tbsp. fresh chopped flowers
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
6 Tbsp. butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs

Grease a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Heat milk with lavender almost to a boil, then steep until cool.
Mix flour, baking powder and salt together in bowl.
In another bowl cream butter and gradually add sugar, then eggs, one at a time, beating until light and fluffy.
Add flour mixture alternately with lavender milk, in three parts. Mix until batter is just blended, do not overbeat.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan 5 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool.
When completely cool, drizzle with a simple sugar glaze or sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Garnish with sprigs of fresh lavender.

Sage Tea Bread
Ingredients:
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons minced fresh sage or 2 teaspoons dried sage
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

In a small saucepan, heat milk and sage just until warm. Set aside to cool.
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk mixture.
Pour into a greased 9x5x3" loaf pan. Bake at 350Â° for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack.

Blessed Imbolc

Imbolc has arrived! To celebate the return of the Sun, here is a wonderful recipe:

Honey Bars

Ingredients:
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup honey
1 cup sour milk* (see below)
2 Tablespoons vinegar
6 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon mace
1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

Prepare sour milk and mix dry ingredients. Set both aside.
Cream margarine and sugar, add egg, beat until light. Add honey, sour milk and vinegar.
Mix thoroughly. Chill one hour.
Roll out to 1/4" thickness. Cut into 2"x3" rectangles and place on buttered cookie sheets.
Bake at 375° for 6 minutes. Frost with plain vanilla frosting or sprinkle with icing sugar.

* For sour milk, add 1 T. vinegar to 1 c. milk and let stand for 10 minutes.

44 Days of Witchery: A myth or story from folklore.

Imbolc is getting close and it is time to celebrate the coming of spring and the Sun and to acknowledge Brigid. Brigid is the Gaelic Goddess of poetry, healing and smithcraft. She is associated with sacred flames and healing. Purifying fires are an important part of Imbolc festivals. The lighting of fires and candles represents the warmth and increasing powers of the returning Sun.

On Imbolc Eve, Brigid is said to walk the Earth. Before retiring to bed, all the members of the household should leave a strip of cloth outside for Brigid to bless. The head of the household should also smother the fire and rake all the ashes smooth. In the morning, the family will find a mark in the ashes as a sign that Brigid has passed. The strips of blessed cloth are now believed to have healing and protective powers.

Q: What is your Witchy background?

A: I am an Eclectic Solitary Wiccan - this simply means I incorporate both traditional and newer Wiccan practices into my beliefs. My practices are solitary for the most part, although I do quite a bit of my spell work with mt sister. I would also classify myself as a Kitchen/Domestic Witch. This is a unique term in Wicca and focuses on honouring the mundane in life.

I was raised in a Christian path, but have had an intertest in Paganism since my mid teens. I only fully adopted a Wiccan lifestyle about 3 years ago. Parental and community thoughts and beliefs played a large roll in my hesitation. Since embracing the Craft, I live a happier, more fulfilling life and I am one with nature.

I have this posted in my information section, but I thought I would repost incase you've missed...

In this pot, I stir to the sun
an' follow the rule of harming none.

Banishment of bane when goin' widdershins;
an' with water and salt negativity is cleansed.

Household duties are more than chores.
Magick abounds when mopping floors.

With this broom, I do sweep
to clean my house and safely keep.

Marigold, Basil, Thyme, and Yarrow
my spell is cast for a better tomorrow.

Lemons for joy and apples for health
the pow'r within brings great wealth.

And, in this kitchen I do pray
To truly walk the Witches' Way.

Today is Friday the 13th - let's talk about 13 facts, myths and beliefs associated with one of the most superstitious days of the year...

1. It is considered bad luck to have a black cat cross your path on this day. Due to the negativity linked to black cats, they are the harded to re-home in pet adoption facilities.

2. Contrary to popular belief, there has never been a ship named the HMS Friday that left dock on Friday the 13th and was never seen from again.

3. This year, 2012, there are 3 Friday the 13ths - in January, April and July.

4. If you find a horse shoe with the open end facing you, nail it over the door with the open end up so the good luck doesn't spill.

5. Hospital admission as a result of a transportion accident may be increased by as much as 52 percent in some cities on this day.

6. Paraskevidekatriaphobics is the irrational fear of Friday the 13th, and Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13.

7. Most fears of this date are related to mythology and Christian ideology: 13 guests attended the last supper, which was followed by Jesus’ crucifixion, which by some accounts occurred on Friday the 13th. Additionally, Judas, Jesus’ betrayer, was the 13th guest.

8. Many hospitals do not have a 13th room. Hotels rarely have a 13th floor, and most airports omit gate 13.

9. Mark Twain once was the 13th guest at a dinner party. A friend warned him not to go. "It was bad luck," Twain later told the friend. "They only had food for 12."

10. Superstitious diners in Paris can hire a quatorzieme, or professional 14th guest.

11. In Norse belief, Loki was the 13th god, and when he showed up at Baldur’s funeral (despite being Baldur’s killer) he was the 13th guest.

12. Ancient Egyptians believe that life was a quest for spiritual ascension which unfolded in stages: 12 in this life and the 13th was the eternal afterlife. Subsequent cultures readily associated 13 with the fear of death, rather than a reverence for the afterlife.

It's getting close to that time!!
With only a few days until Yule, I will not be around to post on the blog this week.
That being said, I have alot of changes in mind for the following weeks and I hope you all will like them! Now that I no longer have my practical magick domain, it occured to me that I really don't need two blogs - so I will be combining all of the information that was formerally on PracticalMagick.net to this blog... lots of info coming and all in one neat, tidy place!! Also, in the new year, I will get back into my regular postings: Kitchen Witch Wednesday, Magickal Herb Friday and so on.

'Tis the Season?

It seems like everyone is having trouble getting into the spirit of the season this year. I'm just not feeling it... the warmth and joy that is normally present just hasn't been expressed yet. I haven't even gotten our Yule Tree or decorations up. I think it has alot to do with the sadness I am feeling about the commercialization of this holiday, the greed of everyone.

Can You Imagine?

KWW: Witch Bottles

Witches have used Witch Bottles for hundreds of years to "capture" negative energies, spirits and other evils that may be near. A Kitchen Witch Bottle is generally used to prevent food contamination. The magick from the bottle is considered "active" as long as the bottle remains hidden or unbroken.

Place three new needles, three new pins, and three new nails in a glass jar.
Fill with salt and shake vigorously nine times.
Seal with white wax.

I make my Kitchen Witch Bottles in 1/2 dram glass vials and hide them in my seasonal bowl of herbal potpourri. This may not be a traditional hiding spot, but it is somewhere that does not get disturbed.

It's that time of year when several contagions are in our midst. These simple sachets can be given as gifts, or kept around your home (haning by entrance ways or above your bed). The herbs included will help to repell colds and the flu.

4 parts lavendar
2 parts cinnamon
1 part sandalwood

1 part ginger
1 part cayenne pepper
4 whole cloves
1 whole nutmeg (split into pieces)

Place all herbs into a BLACK sachet. Black will help repell negativity and evil - and in my books, colds and the flu are pretty evil! ;)

Kitchen Witch Wednesday: Autumn Butter

Autumn Butter
1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 cup softened butter

Mix together in medium bowl.
Serve on hot biscuits or pound cake.

First Full Moon Circle

I attended my first Full Moon Circle this month.
I really enjoyed it. As a solitary Witch, it's not often that I get to experience things with others of similar beliefs. I feel this circle was unique because I don't believe we were all Wiccan, but we were "spiritual". By this I simply mean, the other women were not dedicated to a Wiccan faith, but are Pagan in some form.
I am looking forward to next month!!

Beat the Heat While Being Green

Here in Canada it has been insanely hot lately. And this Witch - as much as she loves her air conditioning sometimes - is always trying to find green ways to keep cool. I hope this list is helpful for you as well!

A simple way that my husband is always promoting is to shut the curtains. If you have thick curtains, this will help to block out the sun which will prevent the room from heating up. But if you are anything like me, you may find it hard to block out those beautiful rays!!

Avoid using your oven and dryer. Hang your clothes out to dry. the warm rays of the sun will dry your clothes in no time and this method will extend the life of your clothes. Use a BBQ or a toaster oven for cooking, this will reduce the amount of heat energy released into your home - and it saves on money too!

Let your hair air dry, or try out a short style for the summer. When you are outside, wear light-weight fabrics... and be sure to use sunscreen on those exposed areas!

Spice it up... by eating spicy foods, your body will sweat more. When the sweat evaporates, you will feel cooler.

Have fun with water... in addition to drinking substantial amounts of water to prevent dehydration, you could take cool showers, hop into a pool or share a sprinkler with the kids. Cold showers also have health benefits as they help increase blood circulation and close pores.

A new Pagan Ezine

Although this book isn't as "witchy" as some of the others in my library, it is a very practical manual for healthy and natural living. There are crafts and recipes and many other informative sections - including a section on each Sabbat.

Wicca 101: Types of Wicca

Every so often, it is important to look back to the basics. Since I have yet to discuss types of Wicca on this blog, I figured it was high time I did so. So grab a drink, kick back and rediscover the basics of Wicca with me.

There are several different types of Wiccan Traditions (Wiccans use the word tradition as opposed to denomination). Some types of Traditions are very secretive and are unknown to the general public. This compliation may not be complete.

The "Oldest" Traditions

Gardnerian Wicca - founded by Gerald B Gardner: Gardner is known as the father of modern Wicca/Witchcraft as this was the first tradition to step out publically. This tradition requires initiation and works with a degree system. Much of their information is oathbound, and cannot be shared with anyone outside of their path. There is much debate in the Wiccan community as to whether this is the only "true" Wiccan path. This system places an emphasis on the Goddess/female over the God/male.

Alexandrian Wicca - founded by Alex Sanders: Although heavily influenced by Gardnerian Wicca, Alexandrian Wicca focuses on the equality between the Goddess and God and has a heavy emphasis on cerimonial magick during Esbats and Sabbats. These covens also use initiation and a degree system.

Seax Wicca - founded by Raymond Buckland: Although this sect has a Saxon basis, it is a Tradition of Wicca. The main difference with this Tradition is that it has open public rituals (many of which are published). This path does not require initiation into a lineage group - members can self-decicate themselves into this tradition. This path allows for both covens and solitary practices. Priests and Priestesses are encouraged to add to or modify the rituals and practices of the tradition as they see fit as there is no one set of regulations for this tradition. Seax Wicca deals mainly with Germanic Deitiess and Runes for divination.

Other Wiccan Traditions:

Dianic Wicca: This Tradition was born from the Feminist Movement and although it appears to contain a variety of aspects of other traditions, it focuses solely on the Goddess and all things feminine. This tradition became known as a "lesbian" group, but Dianic Wicca is meant for all women regardless of sexual orientation; it also now allows for mixed covens, female covens, and solo practitioners This Tradition honours the Sabbats although there may not be a lot of continuity in rituals. It incourages female leadership and insists that a Preistess be present to open a circle.

Blue Star Witchcraft: Although modeled from Gardnerian Traditions, these members reject the term Wicca and refer to Witchcraft and Witches only. This Tradition also uses initiation and a degree system, however, unlike other 3 degree systems, Blue Star Witchcraft uses a 5 level system.

Georgian Wicca: This is a very eclectic form of Wicca. It incorporates both Gardnerian and Alexandrian Traditions. Although it is a God and Goddess system, it leans strongly toward the Goddess. Members are encouraged to learn and study through all resourses available.

British Traditional Wicca: This is a term used mainly by Americans to describe various British Traditions (Gardnerian and Alexandrian may fall under this category). It is believed that BTW predates other Wiccan Traditions. British Traditional Wiccans must be initiated by a lineaged member and must maintain a certain level of training and practices. It should be noted that this tradition is not solely found in Britian.

Celtic Wicca: This path combines Druid and Gardnerian Wicca. There is a large emphasis on the elements, nature and the Ancient Ones.

Eclectic Wicca: This is often referred to Neowiccan Tradition (please note - this is not a derogatory or insulting term, it simply refers to one who practices a newer form of Wicca). This is a combination of several types of traditions to form a new tradition. Eclectic Wiccans can be either solitary or part of a coven.

As mentioned before, this is not a complete list as the types of Wiccan Traditions is so vast, but hopefully it is enough for you to figure out what type of Wicca you belong to.

I bet you didn't think I was going to do an entry about Kitchen Witchery.... I've missed several weeks and for that, I apologize. I do hope you will re join me with Kitchen Witch Wednesdays.

To me, it's pretty easy to be a Kitchen Witch... I feel at home in my kitchen and with my herbs. And adding a hint of magick into your meals is equally as easy. Every witch knows, magick is about will and intent. Taking time to prepare your meals with loving intent, blessing your ingredients and savouring what you made will help you and your family feel the magick around you.

Simple Meal Blessing:
Lord and Lady, watch over us,
and bless us as we eat.
Bless this food, this bounty of earth,
we thank you, so mote it be.

Mother Earth Meal Blessing:
Oh Mother Earth, we thank you so,

A few days ago, I was feeling crafty and I made the family matching pentigram bracelets. The eldest witchlet was especially proud of hers and used it for Share Time at school.

That night I recieved a note from her teacher....

[Your daughter] showed me her bracelet today - a pentacle. Do you call yourselves Wiccan or Witches? .... I asked [your daughter] how she felt about the portrayal of witches in the fairy tales we have been studying and she said it upset her a bit....

There was more to the letter, but this is the just of it. I ended up writing a whole page as a response! I indicated that I would be more than happy to discuss our practices with her if she desired, I explain why my daughter was a little upset about witches in fairytales. Over all I am happy that her teacher isn't judgemental... I just wish we'd been able to have this discussion earlier in the year as it would have made taking the kids out of class for Sabbats much easier!

Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards

I recently purchased the Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards (by Doreen Virtue). I am really loving them... they are beautifully illustrated and are helpful in teaching the various goddesses. Within the instructional booklet there is also a card consecration spell - which I will be doing very soon - I just can't wait to use these cards!

Magickal Herb Friday: Chives

Chives are very abundant in my garden this year! The season has only just begun here and I have already had to "harvest" my chives 3 times!! I think they are one of my favourite culunary herbs... fragrant and easy to maintain, they add flavour to any dish.

This herb has a reputation of chasing away evil spirits and disease. It is usually planted outside the windows of young children and brought indoors to the kitchen. It was not uncommon to have chive bundles hanging from ceilings and tied to bedposts in ancient times.

Chives are best suited for cullinary purposes. They are best if added last to a dish (when cooking) because cooking causes much of the flavour to be lost. It should also be noted that large quantities of this herb may cause stomach irritaion.

Magickal Herb Friday: Catnip

Catnip, also known as Cat-Mint, is the plant of choice for most of our familiars. The intoxicating scent will make your feline friend experience a great feeling of euphoria. This herb is safe to ingest and will likely make your kitty more playful than normal.

In addition to being a feline treat, it has a number of medicinal purposes. It is a mild herb and is often given to colicy babies in the form of tea. The tea can also aid in fever reduction, and also helps alieviate the symptoms of respiratory infections. When mixed with raspberry leaves, catnip tea will help with menstrual cramping. An oil tincture can be used as a repellent against insects, particularly mosquitoes, cockroaches and termites.

Simple Catnip Tea:

Magickal Herb Friday: Belladonna

Belladonna - also known as Deadly Nightshade - is referred to as a toxic herb; it can be deadly and even fatal if used incorrectly. Take care when using it in your practices - Keep away from children, pets and familiars!

This perennial herb has both cosmetic and medicinal purposes. In early times, it was used cosmetically because the active ingredient, atropine, causes the pupils to dialte, which was thought to be a sexy and alluring attribute in women. It is believed this is how the name Belladonna came to be, as it means beautiful lady in Italian. Medicinally, the alkaloids found in this herb help to dry up bodily fluids (breast milk, saliva, perspiration, and mucous) and can aid in gastrointestinal disorders. It is often used in homeopathic remedies to cure the common cold, earaches, fever, menstrual cramps, sunstroke, toothaches, headaches, sore throats, and boils.

Pluto Incense (Planetary Influence Incense)
1 part Cypress
1 part Peppermint
1/2 part Eucalyptus
1/2 part Mimosa
Pinch Belladonna leaf

Burn to attract its influences.

Remember to always consult a doctor before using any herbal remedies. Belladonna is an extremely dangerous herb and should only be used under the supervision of a certified medical practitioner.

KWW: Onion Banishing Spell

Banishment spells can be used for a variety of reasons - to rid yourself of an unwanted person, feeling or habit. I have listed this as a kitchen witch spell because the main ingredient is an onion. Banishment spells are best preformed during the waning moon.

You will need:
>> an onion
>> pen/paper
>> knife

Upon the paper, write the object of your banishment - for example, your bad habit, three times.
Cut out and hollow a section of the onion.
Taking care not to break or separate the onion, insert your paper into this hole.
"Close" the onion by replacing the cut out section (or outter peel).

Hold the onion in your hands, focusing your will on the object of banishment.
Bury (or burn and bury) the onion OFF of your property to rid yourself of the object of your banishment.

Garden Blessings

With Spring on our doorstep it's always good to give our gardens a little boost.
I posted this as part of my Post-It Note Tuesday post yesterday but the spell was too long for a post-it note... even the shortened version was cut off... so here is the full Garden Blessing Spell that I use each spring.

>> Bless a Spring Garden <<

1 qt of milk
seeds or plants
1/2 cup of honey
2 stakes for each garden row
2 qt container
pastel ribbon (one for each stake)
Small branch with buds on it

Take all the materials outside to the garden. Mix the milk and honey together and pour it into a container.
Place the branch in the container and set it aside.
Poke a stake in the ground at the beginning and end of each row, then sow the seeds and/or set the plants. Tie a ribbon bow around each stake, saying to the seeds & the plants in that row:

"Perfect love, I give to you.
Sprout and thrive with life anew."

Pick up the container and using the branch, asperge the garden with milk and honey
Consecrate it saying:

"Milk and honey flow through out,
Fertilize each seed and sprout.
Maiden, Green Man, dance & play,
Twirl and laugh here everyday.
Bring lush growth and green this spot
Every where you skip and walk."

Water the garden thoroughly and tend to its need each day.

Magickal Herb Friday: Angelica

I've decided to start a new feature here... Fantastic Herb Friday!! ~~Hopefully~~ every Friday, I will teach you about a new herb. Each entry will either have a recipe and/or a spell/blessing using said herb.
Now on to this week's herb: ANGELICA!

This versatile herb has many uses. Medicinally speaking, it has an antibacterial component, preventing the growth of various bacteria in the body. When used as a facial wash infusion, it can prevent acne.And a powder made from the dried root can assist with athlete's foot as well as an insecticide and pesticide. It may relieve tension headache, diuretic, beneficial to the stomach and digestion. It should be noted, large doses can negatively affect blood pressure, heart, and respiration due to it's effect on the menses, if you are pregnant, it can cause miscarriage.

"Medicinal" Angelica Tea: To 1 tsp. dried Angelica root add 1 cup boiling water steep 15 to 20 min. take throughout the day and at bedtime.

Angelica is a masculine herb, associated with the sun and the element of fire. It is ruled by the planet Venus and id associated with Beltane. The incense may be used in spells of protection and exorcism. Carrying the root is also used for protective talisman. When used for divination purposes, smoking the leaves may induce visions. This herb works by both creating a barrier against negative energy, and by filling it's user with positive energy. This herb can also be used for removing curses and hexes.

Peaceful Home Spell Bag

• One hair from each member of the household
• Blue thread or fine string
• A piece of angelica root
• Chamomile oil
• Balm of Gilead buds
• Lavender blossoms
• Chamomile blossoms
• Small blue fabric bag

Twist and braid the hairs together with the blue thread, then tie them around the piece of angelica root. Rub a small drop of chamomile oil over the bundle.
Put the tied root along with the Balm of Gilead, chamomile and lavender into the bag and tie it (or sew it) closed. Place it in a central spot in the house, like the kitchen or living room. It will help diffuse any tensions and negative energy flowing in the house.

KWW: Immune Booster Juice

On my non-Wiccan blog this morning, I featured a breakfast smoothie recipe, so I thought I would carry that theme over here. This is another recipe for those winter months... this will help your immune system to ward off colds. Don't be frightened by these ingredients - the parsley takes care of the garlic odor, and the apple sweetens the juice.

:: Immune System Booster Juice ::

What You Need:

4-5 large carrots
Small handful of parsley
1 clove garlic
1 apple, cored

What You Do:
Run ingredients through juicer.
Strain.
Enjoy!

KWW: A Shout Out and a Spell

For today's Kitchen Witch Wednesday, I want to give a shout out to a new podcast I discovered this morning.Cooking by Moonlight from Jennifer (Confessions of a Kitchen Witch). This podcast discusses making meals magickal... it's definately worth a listen.

Now on to the spell for today.

Everyone wants a happy home. Why not promote happiness with this simple potion.

Simmer together a handful of rose petals, lavender, mint and a pinch of sea salt. Keep an eye on the water leave so that you do not burn your pot. Stir your mixture (clockwise) with a wooden spoon. As the lovely aroma fills your home say the following:

By the powers of fire and air, I cleanse this space, and banish all negativity from this home.
By the powers of water and earth, I consecrate this space, and invite the energies of prosperity, health and harmony into this home.

This mixture can also be heated in a potourri simmerer, but obviously, you will not be able to use your wooden spoon.

Herbal Remedy: Fever

The flu bug has hit our house hard this year and seems to just keep travelling from one family member to the next.

As a mother, it is always hard to see your child ill or with a fever.
As a Witch, you often want to try natural remedies to ease the pain of fever.

PLEASE REMEMBER... check with a doctor before trying herbal remedies on yoursefl or your children!!

Catnip is often used as a fever remedy because it can promote sweating which will reduce the temperature. However it is important to note that exessive sweating will speed up the dehydration process.

An echinacea tincture or tea will often help to break a fever as well. Echinacea will also support immune functions during times of illness.

Echinacea Tincture:
When taken internally, this tincture will help the body for fight off infection. Or alternatively, it may be used externally as a body wash.

Please note, this recipe takes 2 weeks to steep.

Fill a quart jar 2/3 full of echinacea flowers.
Pour 80 proof alcohol over flowers, filling jar.
Cover jar tightly and label.
Steep herb for at least 2 weeks, shaking jar every day.
After 2 weeks, tincture can be strained if desired. The finished tincture will keep indefinitely.
Repeat process using Echinacea roots. Combine these two finished tinctures to create a more powerful synergistic blend.

Tips:

Store tincture in a darkened area.Store in colored glass if possible.
Strain tincture through fine cheesecloth, if desired.
Do not use anything but glass to make your tinctures.

Finding Your Totem Animal Guide

Finding your animal guide or totem is a personal journey that many Pagans are interested in. Use your gut instinct, take notice of what animal you are drawn to, or what seems to come to you in your dreams. meditations and nature walks.

Spell for Finding your Animal Guide:
On a piece of parchment paper or notebook paper write this incantation down and after saying the incantation place it under your pillow before retiring to bed.

Guardians of the dream world,
I call you to my side.
Reveal my animal, my protector and my guide.
Show me the beauty and grace in the radiant eyes of my guardian's face.

A guided meditation may also be helpful in discovering your animal guide. Try to find a partner to assist you while you meditate. Have your partner say the following while you meditate and focus on their words **:

You are standing in the middle of a lush, healthy forest. You can feel moist earth, bits of branch and bark, and small stones underneath your bare feet, and your hands rest on the rough mossy surface of a tall oak tree. You can smell the water after the morning rain all around you, leaving the forest misty and cool, glistening on the leaves and in tiny pools on the ground. The forest smells of pine and oak, birch and cedar, wet bark and damp earth, and fresh wind and rain.

Look above you to the canopy of the trees; the sky is brilliant blue through the gaps in the leaves, wispy white clouds draping the heights. The Sun shines full and bright upon the forest, turning the leaves above into dappled stained-glass of different shades of green. You reach down into a small pool and touch your lips with clear, fresh rainwater, tasting its cool pureness. The wind comes through the leaves, whispering off of branch and bush, singing its own song. The birds are singing that song as well, cheerfully filling the forest with their calls, accented by the occasional frog's note. Look at the forest around you. Touch it, smell it, taste it, and hear it. Now feel the forest, inside and out. Feel all the elements, the wind and water, the earth and the sun, and the love of the Gods all around you. Become part of that forest.

See yourself walking down a path - the path will look as you see it, and feel it. The path is your walk with your spirituality, your learning....it is the path that we all walk in different ways. Follow the path until it leads you to a grove of birch trees, tall and slender and glowing white in the sunshine. The outside of the circle is lined with beautiful wildflowers; a pool of deep, clear water stands in the middle and nine stones enclose the circle round. The sun shines bright and full overhead, and the sky moves quickly as the wind brushes its ever-moving veil of clouds along. Stand at the entrance for a moment, using all of your senses to feel the grove. When it feels right, move to wherever is calling you - the rocks, the water, the flowers..... whatever one you feel is the best for you, and is where you belong.

Close your eyes in the meditation and feel the warm sun on your face, the cool breeze through your hair, the dew on your feet and the rock beneath you. Sit and listen to all the sounds the forest makes, especially the animals. Think about how much you would like for your animal guide to come and speak to you in such a beautiful and meaningful place. Don't speak, but just listen to the forest and its creatures; hear the trees speaking, and the wind, and the animals. If you wait long enough, you may hear footsteps through the brush into the grove. Your guide will stand before you from whichever direction it emerged. Thank it for coming, and then talk to it for as long as it is willing to stay.

Be sure to ground yourself after the meditation. Good luck!

What's the difference?

I'm sure I am not alone in wondering...
What is the difference between FAIRY and FAERY?
Why do some people spell it one way, and others spell it another??

Here is what I have discovered - and this is how I explain it to my children.

A FAIRY is often a cute fantastical winged creature - think Disney Fairy here. I associate this type of fairy with my kids mostly. They are happy-go-lucky, helpful beings. At times mischevious - but nothing to be frightened of. I remeber reading somewhere that a fairy is the Victorian era's attemp tp "prettify" the more wicked faery.

A FAERY is more of an "adult" creature. These beings may not be all sweet, playful and helpful. At times they may even be considered dangerous as they are unpredictable and sometimes cruel. They are the legendary Fae with origins in ancient times.

Regardless of which fae you associate with, treat them with kindness - leave treats (seeds, berries, sugar, corn meal) in the garden - worst-case senario (if you don't believe in the fae), you've left a yummy treat for the birds :)

KWW: Fairy Berries

Time to get back into the swing of things with Kitchen Witch Wednesdays -- boy have I slacked off!

Today I have a really simple recipe that any little girl will love.
Both of my girlie witchlets love dressing up in fairy costumes... so why not have a Fairy Tea Party...
The perfect snack for your little fairies is: FAIRY BERRIES

What You Need:

Large strawberries with stems
White chocolate (such as Nestle Premier White Morsels or Wilton White Candy Melts; 1 cup of pieces will coat about 12 strawberries)

Red food coloring
Decorating sugar (sprinkles also work well)

How to Make It:

RINSE the berries, then pat them dry with paper towels.
PLACE the white chocolate in a bowl and melt it in the microwave according to the package instructions.
STIR in red food coloring until the chocolate is tinted pink (we used 5 drops for 1 cup of chocolate).
POUR the sugar onto a plate. Holding each berry by the stem, dunk it into the chocolate, then roll it immediately in the sugar.
PLACE the berries on a sheet of waxed paper and let the coating harden.

Pod-fading

It's been ages since I've added a podcast. I did not intend on "pod-fading".
I feel badly about that - I really enjoy doing the podcasts - and I enjoyed sharing them with my sister.

However since she has moved (even though it's only 10 minutes away), we are finding it difficult to get together and find the time to podcast.
I am unsure if I can do this podcast alone though - part of what makes our podcast is the sibling bantering.

So readers - what do you think? Should I attempt the podcast alone? Find someone else to join me? If I do this alone, what should I talk about??

Blessed Imbolc

Blessings my witchy friends!
And a happy imbolc to you all!

On the "groundhog" side of things...both Wiarton Willie and Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see thier shadows.. what does that mean - Spring is on the way!

However, being Wiccan, we know that Imbolc is a Sabbat for the promise of spring. And in the spirit of Kitchen Witch Wednesday, here are a few recipes to aid in your celebrations.

Candlemas Cresent Cakes

1 1/4 cups Flour
3/4 cup Sugar
1 cup Finely Ground Almonds
3 drops Almond Extract
1/2 cup Butter or Margarine, softened
1 tablespoon Honey
1 Egg Yolk

In a large mixing bowl, combine the first four ingredients. Add the butter, honey and egg yolk and mix
together well. Cover with aluminum foil or plastic wrap, and then chill for 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the refrigerator.

When ready, pinch off pieces of the dough (about the size of plums) and shape them into crescents.

Place the crescents on a well-greased cookie sheet and bake in a 325-degree preheated oven for
approximately 20 minutes. (This recipe yields about one dozen Candlemas Crescent Cakes.)

Returning Sun Spice Bread

1 1/4 cup flour
1/8 cup poppyseeds
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup raisins, plain or golden
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup butter/margarine
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
3/4 cup Karo golden corn syrup
1/2 cup light brown sugar
4 tbs. milk
1 large egg, beaten
1 tsp. mixed spices**

**Equal parts of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

Sift the flour, soda, and baking powder into a non-metal bowl. Add the mixed spice and ginger. Next add the brown sugar and raisins. Mix. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. In a small sauce pan, melt the butter and the syrup over a low heat, then pour liquid into the well in the middle of the flour mixture. Add the beaten egg and the milk, and mix very well. Pour into a well greased 2-lb loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 325 degrees for 40-50 minutes. This bread can be made the night before as it improves with age. Makes 8-10 servings.

Potato Soup

2 oz butter/margarine
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 medium onions, peeled
Salt & pepper (to taste)
3 large potatoes, peeled
1 sprig thyme, bay leaf, and bunch parsley
2 pints milk
Chopped chives to garnish

Melt butter in a large pan and add thinly sliced potatoes and onions. Toss well in the butter. Put a lid on the pan and allow the vegetables to simmer over a low heat for about 10 minutes. Don't let the vegetables turn brown. Add the milk and all other ingredients, except for the chives, and simmer for about 30 minutes. Remove thyme, bay leaf, and parsley. Pour soup into food processor or blender (on chop) for about 1 minute. Pour into soup bowls and garnish with chives. Makes 6 servings.

Blessed Imbolc

Imbolc Candle Ritual for Solitary Wiccans

First, set up your altar in a way that makes you happy, and brings to mind the themes of Imbolc. You'll also want to have on hand the following:
- Seven candles, in red and white (tealights are perfect for this)
- Something to light your candles with
- A large bowl or cauldron big enough to hold the candles
- Sand or salt to fill the bottom of the bowl/cauldron
Prior to beginning your ritual, take a warm, cleansing bath. While soaking, meditate on the concept of purification. Once you're done, dress in your ritual attire, and begin the rite.
If your tradition requires you to cast a circle, do so now.
Pour the sand or salt into the bowl or cauldron. Place the seven candles into the sand so they won't slide around. Light the first candle. As you do so, say:
Although it is now dark, I come seeking light.
In the chill of winter, I come seeking life.
Light the second candle, saying:
I call upon fire, that melts the snow and warms the hearth.
I call upon fire, that brings the light and makes new life.
I call upon fire to purify me with your flames.
Light the third candle. Say:
This light is a boundary, between positive and negative.
That which is outside, shall stay without.
That which is inside, shall stay within.
Light the fourth candle. Say:
I call upon fire, that melts the snow and warms the hearth.
I call upon fire, that brings the light and makes new life.
I call upon fire to purify me with your flames.
Light the fifth candle, saying:
Like fire, light and love will always grow.
Like fire, wisdom and inspiration will always grow.
Light the sixth candle, and say:
I call upon fire, that melts the snow and warms the hearth.
I call upon fire, that brings the light and makes new life.
I call upon fire to purify me with your flames.
Finally, light the last candle. As you do so, visualize the seven flames coming together as one. As the light builds, see the energy growing in a purifying glow.
Fire of the hearth, blaze of the sun,
cover me in your shining light.
I am awash in your glow, and tonight I am
made pure.
Take a few momemnts and meditate on the light of your candles. Think about this Sabbat, a time of healing and inspiration and purification. Do you have something damaged that needs to be healed? Are you feeling stagnant, for lack of inspiration? Is there some part of your life that feels toxic or tainted? Visualize the light as a warm, enveloping energy that wraps itself around you, healing your ailments, igniting the spark of creativity, and purifying that which is damanged.
When you are ready, end the ritual. You may choose to follow up with healing magic, or with a Cakes and Ale ceremony.

Goddess: Brigid

Brigid is the Celtic goddess of fire (the forge and the hearth) is celebrated in many European countries. She is also known by many names, including Saint Brigid who may be one of the most powerful religious figures in Irish history.

Brigid was first worshipped in ancient times as the daughter of the great Irish god Dagda, the 'Good Father'. She had two sisters who were also named Brigid. Brigid is often now known as a Triple Goddess (encompassing all three sisters)... however unlike most triple Goddesses represented by the chronicalogical aspects of womanhood, these "Brigid"s are of the same generation and are distinguished by their responsibilities.

Brigid, the 'Fire of the Hearth', was the goddess of fertility, family, childbirth and healing.
Brigid, the '"Fire of the Forge', was like the Greek goddess Athena, a patroness of the crafts (especially weaving, embroidery, and metalsmithing), and a goddess who was concerned with justice and law and order.
Brigid, the 'Fire of Inspiration', was the muse of poetry, song history and the protector of all cultural learning.

Crochet Project: Gloves

Finding What is Lost

I am deeply sadden. Over the recent seasonal festivities, some how my Pagan Rosary was lost. I love this necklace, I wore it nearly everyday. I hand-made it with fancy Jasper beads. My Children, husband and I have searched for days but still cannot find it. Since the mundane methods have not work, I feel it's time to get magickal :)

Complex Spell to find what is lost:

Supplies:

Mirror
Orange candle
Black candle
Small Magnet

Cast your circle and invoke the Elemental Guardians. Light the black candle (for solving mysteries, and drawing away the negativeness of the loss), and then the orange candle (for luck and precious objects). Visualize the lost object(s) in the mirror as already being found. Place the magnet between the two candles and stroke it towards you as you say the following three times, substituting the name of the lost object for "(lost object)":

By the wavering flame of this black light,
Grant to me of my (lost object) a sight.
By the power of this orange flame,
Give me luck to find the same.
In this mirror the (lost object) I see
Make the magnet draw them to me.

Close the circle, but leave the candles burning with the magnet between them until the candles burn down.

Wassail!!

Here we come a-wassailing
Among the leaves so green,

For the first time, we made Wassail to enjoy during our Yule festivities. There are several Wassail recipe online, but we opted for a simple version and were pleasantly surprized with the delightful taste. As the witchlets were enjoying the Wassail as well, we did not add brandy to our recipe.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 3 hours

Ingredients:

1 Gallon apple cider
2 C. cranberry juice (I used white cranberry juice)
1/2 C honey
2 oranges
Whole cloves (I will use less cloves next time, as they were overpowering)
1 apple, peeled and diced
3 cinnamon sticks (or 3 Tbs. ground cinnamon)
Spices (ginger, allspice, nutmeg) (optional)
1/2 C - 1 C brandy (optional)

Preparation:

Set your crockpot to its lower setting, and pour apple cider, cranberry juice, and honey in, mixing carefully. As it heats up, stir so that the honey dissolves. Stud the oranges with the cloves, and place in the pot (they'll float). Add the diced apple. If desired, add spices to taste - spices may include ginger, allspice and nutmeg -- usually a couple of tablespoons of each is plenty. Finally, snap the cinnamon sticks in half and add those as well.
Cover your pot and allow to simmer 2 - 4 hours on low heat. About half an hour prior to serving, add the brandy if you choose to use it.

I hope that you all had a warm and loving holiday season.
Ours was wonderful, although we will be doing some changes to next year's Yule and Christmas festivities. I think we will open all of our gifts on Yule and save Christmas simply for Santa and the non-Wiccan members of the family. I think it will make things less hectic for us, and it will make Yule seem more special for the children, because, let's face it... this season is mainly about the gifts for young children.

It is often used to make wands for it's element is air, and wands are associated with air. Eating of the Almond will help in the cure of fevers, and also bring wisdom to the well eater. Placing almonds in your pocket will lead you to a source of money or treasure.

APPLE
Feminine, Planet is Venus, element is Water, powers of love healing and prosperity.
USES: Samhain is often called the "Feast of Apples" and is used on the altar during this time, apples are considered the fruit of the dead, and are also burried so that the souls that will be reborn in the Spring will have something to eat during the long Winter months. The Apple is the symbol of
immortality and a branch carried with the fruit, buds or flowers will gain you access into the land of the Gods. The buds are used in poppets, sachets and incenses to gain and bring love. Put the juice in pink wax to make candles, burn the candles to attract love. Unicorns are known to reside near apple trees. Cutting an apple in half and giving the other half to a loved one to eat insures that the two of
you will stay happy. Cutting the apple in 3 pieces and rubbing on ailing parts of your body, near the place if inside your body, and buring the three pieces when finished will help aid in the healing of the ailment.

APRICOT
Feminine, planet is Venus, element is Water, power of Love.
USES: The juice of the apricot is used in rituals and love potions. You can carry the pits to attract love and drinking of the juice will soften your personality.

AVOCADO

If made in a pie and given to your spouse it will ensure that he stays faithfull. Poking colored pins into the lemon (no black ones) and hung in the home brings luck to all that reside in the home.

NUT

It is a recognized religion that might best be described as a modern religion, based on ancient Witchcraft traditions. The word REDE means to give advice, or to counsel.
The Wiccan Rede provides Wiccans and witchcraft-based religions with a key moral system. It contains a good set of basic principles and is a liberal code of morality.

Wicca is generally described as being eclectic and non-dogmatic, however, many have adopted the theology of the Rede, especially the final lines "an it harm none, do what ye will". I believe this line is mainly about intent; it is usually interpreted as a declaration of freedom, along with the necessity of taking responsibility for what follows from one's actions and minimising harm to oneself and others.

Witch's Rede

The birth and rebirth of all nature, the passing of Winter and Spring. We share with the Life Universal, rejoice in the Eternal Magickal Ring.

Four times a year the Great Sabbats, return, and the Witches are seen, At Lammas and Candlemas dancing, on May Eve and ‘ole Halloween.

When daytime and nighttime are equal, when the Sun is at it’s greatest and least, the four Lesser Sabbats are summoned, again, the Witches gather in feast.

Thirteen Silver Moons in a year there are. Thirteen is the Coven’s array. Thirteen times at Esbat make merry, for each year and a day.

The power has passed down through the ages, each time between man and woman. Each century unto the other, ‘ere times and ages began.

When drawn is the Magickal Circle, by sword or Athame’s power, It’s a compass between two worlds lies in the Land of Shadows of that hour.

Our world has no right to know it, and the world beyond will tell naught. The oldest of Gods are invoked there, the great works of magick is wrought.

Principles of the Craft

1. We practice rites to attune ourselves with the natural rhythm of life forces marked by the phases of the Moon and the seasonal Quarters and Cross Quarters.

2. We recognize that our intelligence gives us a unique responsibility toward our environment. We seek to live in harmony with Nature, in ecological balance offering fulfillment to life and consciousness within an evolutionary concept.

3. We acknowledge a depth of power far greater than that apparent to the average person. Because it is far greater than ordinary it is sometimes called "supernatural", but we see it as lying within that which is naturally potential to all.

4. We conceive of the Creative Power in the universe as manifesting through polarity-as masculine and feminine-and that this same Creative Power lies in all people, and functions through the interaction of the masculine and feminine. We value neither (gender) above the other, knowing each to be supportive to the other. We value sex as pleasure, as the symbol and embodiment of life, and as one of the sources of energies used in magickal practice and religious worship.

5. We recognize both outer worlds and inner, of psychological, worlds sometimes known as the Spiritual World, the Collective Unconscious, Inner Planes, etc.-and we see in the inter-action of these two dimensions the basis for paranormal phenomena and magickal exercises. 8. Calling oneself "Witch" does not make a Witch-but neither does heredity itself, nor the collecting of titles, degrees and initiations. A Witch seeks to control the forces within her/himself that make life possible in order to live wisely and well without harm to other and in harmony with Nature.

9. We believe in the affirmation and fulfillment of life in a continuation of evolution and development of consciousness giving meaning to the Universe we know and our personal role within it.

10. Our only animosity towards Christianity, or toward any other religion or philosophy of life, is to the extent that its institutions have claimed to be "the only way" and have sought to deny freedom to others and to suppress other ways of religious practice and belief.

11. As witches, we are not threatened by debates on the history of the Craft, the origins of various terms, the legitimacy of various aspects of different traditions. We are concerned with our present and our future.

12. We do not accept the concept of absolute evil, nor do we worship any entity known as "Satan" or "the Devil", as defined by Christian tradition. We do not seek power through the suffering of others, nor accept that personal benefit can be derived only by denial to another.

13. We believe that we should seek within Nature that which is contributory to our health and well-being.

Decrees of Witchcraft

1) Never experiment or practice with magickal applications, symbols, or systems that you do not FULLY understand. If you do not know the full gambit of what you are doing, Do Not Do It. Retribution and causalities can be far reaching and abound in more ways than you can imagine.

2) Do not link money with your magick. It will effect the outcome and the caster. Reimbursement for supplies, time, and effort is acceptable but, never demanded.

3) Never use your skills and abilities to impress or fascinate someone. The God and Goddess do not need another arrogant buffoon. You will fail miserably.

4) Do not scare or threaten others with magickal intimidations or the like. We are Witches, not thugs. Remember the Law of Three.

5) Know that thoughts are things, and that which you create may and probably will manifest in this reality.

6) Never lie to yourself or others. This is the epitome of deceit. This becomes a circle of self-destruction.

7) All things that are -bad- in your life are most often the result of low self-esteem or negative self-think, not bad luck.

8) The power of a Witch grows in direct relation to his or her wisdom and capability.

9) Nothing can harm you or control you unless you allow it to and believe that it does.

10) Never use your abilities to harm another. However, you may defend yourself, and the ones you love, the best way you see fit.

11) Always do the best that you can do. No one is perfect but, we try to constantly improve ourselves and to evolve. Have faith. The God and Goddess will take care of you in the best possible manner.

12) As long as you adhere to what you believe in, do not worry about the ridicules of others. Ridicules are the result of fear, low self-esteem and self-doubt. Do not waste your time on such nonsense.

13) Regard property of another better than you would have them regard your own. Be respectful.

14) Do nothing that would endanger the Craft or someone of the Craft.

15) Do not do something that will bring about conflict with the law of the land. Do mind your beliefs, the beliefs and laws of your Coven, and the beliefs and laws of your Clan - above all others.

16) Witches may teach to others outside of the Craft if: The environment is safe to all, The teacher is knowledgeable and responsible, The student is willing and sincere, The information is already available to the general public-no secrets, and The information Harms None.

17) Perform all magick within the circle. This is especially true for beginners. Only those of great experience and ability may work outside of the circle.

18) Do Nothing to bring Shame to yourself, your coven, and your clan. We, as Witches, have a responsibility that others only speak about but, never fully practice. Each of us is a direct representative of our religion and the Craft, as a whole.

19) Always be proud of who and what you are. Know that you are among the elite and of something far greater than most will ever know. Be proud, be compassionate, and be kind, for you can afford to be.

20) Never shed blood in circle . The God and Goddess do not want us to waste their creations and their children in such a manner. All things are of the God and Goddess. Respect theirs and ours. Killing is for defense and survival -only.

21) Always remember that the God and Goddess are with us. They will provide and protect us. We are never alone. As such, be mindful and remember.

22) Always keep the laws, the Rede, and the rules of the coven and clan. They are written for a purpose and not to fill space on the paper. Keep the laws and they will keep you.

23) Always follow your beliefs diligently, for they are who you are, and they define you for all to see.

24) Do not cast spells while sick, ill, or under the influence of drugs or heavy medication. The results can and probably be extremely baneful. Always be in complete control of yourself.

25) Do not let anyone tell you that what you believe in - the Craft- is wrong, evil, or bad. This is a trick to persuade you to be a puppet of another.

26) Always keep an open mind to the ways and beliefs of others. We are all here to learn and grow together. Keep yourself and your beliefs but, learn from and about others. The higher mind is a diversified mind.

27) Do not mock the way of others. For they may know something you may not -and you might not realize it ...yet.

The Wiccan Creation Story

The best creation story I have ever come across is in Silver Ravenwolf's book: Solitary Witch: the Ultimate Book of Shadows for the New Generation.

I found this snippet online, but it is the closest to the book version that I found...

Long, long ago, the world slept in the arms of a dark void. From this place of nothingness, Spirit drew together and created Our Lady of Infinite Love. She danced among the heavens Her feet beating out the rhythm of all creation. Sparks of light flew from her hair, giving birth to the stars and planets. As She twirled, these heavenly bodies moved with Her in the divine symphony of the Universe. When Her dancing quickened, She formed the seas and mountains. She chanted words of love and joy, as these sounds fell to Earth the flowers and trees were born. From the pure, white light of Her breath came the colours of the universe, turning all things to vibrant beauty. From Her bubbling laughter came the sounds of the pristine running water of the streams, the gentle lapping waters of the lakes, and the roaring screams of the oceans. Her tears of joy became rains of survival.

When Her dancing slowed and She sought a companion with whom to share the wonders of the world, Spirit created The Lord as Her lifemate and companion. Because The Lady so loved the Earth, Spirit made Her companion half spirit, half animal so that together the Lord and Lady could populate the Earth. The Lord’s power moves through her and She showers the Earth and all upon it with Her blessings. Together the Lord and Lady gave birth to all the birds, animals, fishes, and people of our world. To protect and guide the humans, the Lord and Lady created the power spirits. These energies walk with us always, though we often cannot see them. Their speech creates positive energy, from which we draw strength. To each bird the Lady gave a magic song, and to each animal the Lord bestowed instincts to survive. The Lord is the master of the animal and vegetable kingdoms, and therefore wears the antlers of a stag upon His great head. This half-man, half-animal aspect shows His great joy in both the human and animal creations of the Spirit.

As the humans began to grow and prosper, the Lord and Lady saw the need for healers among them. And so they drew forth energy from the realm of angels and from the realm of power animals and from the human realm to create the Witches. The Witches brought with them the wisdom of the Lord and Lady, the ability to heal, and the art of magic. The Lady taught the Witches how to cast a magic circle and talk to the Spirit, the Lord taught them how to communicate with the energies of water, fire, air and earth and commune with the animal and plant kingdoms.

At first, the humans accepted the Witches and treated them fairly; but because the Witches were different, humans began to fear the Wise Ones of the Lord and Lady, thus the Witches became the Hidden Children, conducting their rites of positive energy in secret lest they risk capture and death at the hands of uneducated humans.

As the world grew darker with ignorance and hate of human creation, the Lady took the body of the Moon to represent the gentle light of Her perfect peace, and the Lord took the vibrant rays of the Sun as His symbol of strength in perfect love. And once a month, when the Moon is full, the Witches celebrate and remember the blessings our Mother has bestowed upon us. We call forth Her energy to help us take care of ourselves, our families, our planet, and our friends. Four times a year the Witches celebrate the festivals of fire and honour the Lord and His love for us - these are called the cross-quarters. At the four quarters of the seasons, the Witches honour the cycle of life and the gifts of the Earth with festivals to both the Lord and Lady-signifying the balance they have brought us- the Equinoxes and Solstices.

The Lady has many names- Isis, Astarte, Bride, Diana, Aradia, Hecate- and the Lady walks within and beside each woman. The Lord has many faces, from the strong Cernunnos to the delightful Pan. He guards and guides us and resides within and beside each man. When thunder roars in the heavens, and lightning crack from the ground, the Lord and Lady dance the divine myth of creation so that we may remember them and know that we are never alone. When the Sun rises each morning, we bask in the joy of His love for us, and when the Moon moves through her phases, we understand the cycle of birth, growth, death and rebirth.

When it is our time, the Witches enter the Summerland, From the Spirit that moves and flows through the Lord and Lady we continue to learn the mysticism of the Universe so that we may return, life after life, to serve our brothers and sisters. In each lifetime, Spirit guides us through learning experiences, preparing us along the way for our individual missions. Sometimes we are born among our own kind, and in other instances we must seek out our spiritual family. Many of us do not remember our chosen path until we reach adulthood, but others know instinctively of their heritage from the time they form their own thoughts.

We are the Witches, the representation of the growth of wisdom on our planet. We are the Hidden Children, back from the dead. We are the people, the power, the change, and we have incarnated in every race and culture and continue to do so. We are the divine angels of Earth.

Bewitching Buys: The Circle Within

Today's Bewitching Buy is a book that I feel is a must-have for Witches. It truly has been one of my favourite witchy reads.

A close friend of mine mailed me a copy of The Circle Within: Creating a Wiccan Spiritual Tradition by Dianne Sylvan. This book covers many topics from incorporating Wicca into your daily life to strengthening your connection with the Deities. This is a book you will want to check out!

I was going to make my Kitchen Witch post last night, but I kept thinking... oh I can do it in the morning. And of course - I forgot. So here is my LATE Kitchen witch post.

Etsy is a wonderful crafters site - similar to ebay - filled with hundreds of thousands of handcrafted items. It is a great site for witches... when searching for kitchen witch related items, I stumbled across this print, and fell in love with it!

Snow

Snow...
It can be beautifully magickal or deadly.
I happen to be in the location in South Western Ontario where 300+ motorist were stranded on the highway 402 for over 30 hours. (See news reference here)

But let's focus on the beauty that snow can have... I loved this poem found in The Witch's Almanac 2010 by Marie Bruce

Snowflake Whispers

Darkness falls on Solstice Night
Windows lit by candle light
Outside the moon is shining bright
And the sky is filled with snow.

Softly, softly, one by one
A winter snow-fall has begun
Striking wide-eyed children dumb
As they watch the falling snow.

On top of the tree...

When my husband and I celebrated our first Christmas together (before I became a practicing Wiccan) we purchased an angel for the top of our tree. It took alot of hunting to find the perfect one. And I really fell in love with her once we had found her. This Christmas I wanted something a little more Pagan for the tree, but I just couldn't part with the serene, beautiful face of our angel. My darling sister had an idea - she found some faery wings to attach to the angel and added a bead belt with a spiral triskele key dangling from it. I also want to make a small beaded headpiece for her... Just small additions, but it makes my angel look less "Christian" and more Pagan.
