Kitchen Witchery: Banana Blueberry Muffins

My witchlets don't care much for blueberries... unless they are buried in a muffin.  They can't get enough of blueberry muffins.  And when you add bananas to the mix, those muffins are gone almost immediately.

2 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas
4 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup fresh blueberries
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 12 cup muffin pan.
2. In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda. In a separate bowl, mix the bananas, egg whites, and vanilla extract.
3. Mix the banana mixture into the flour mixture until smooth. Fold in the blueberries. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin pan.
4. Bake 16 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean.

Lost Pet

It has been 3 wks since our beloved Pippa (a female white long-haired Chihuahua) has been missing.  She was "vacationing" at a local breeder's farm while I saved up the funds to get her spayed.  Somehow, she escaped from the kennel and has not been seen since.  My witchlets miss her very much.  Although they are hopeful that she will return, I have more realistic thoughts.

Below is a blessing to protect a lost pet and help to bring them home.

Summer Solstice 2013

I would love to be at Stone Henge on the morning of the Summer Solstice.  Can't you just imagine the magickal feel that must envelope everyone as the sun dawns over the horizon?

Summer Solstice (or Litha) is the longest day of year, when Spring fades into Summer.  Some believe that the portal between the world of the Fae and our realm thins and opens at the twilight of this day.

Summer Solstice is considered a time of great magickal power.  Spells dealing with love, healing and prosperity are generally quite effective at this time.  Many rituals are performed at noon, when the sun is at it's height of power.

Symbols - Fire, Bonfires, Sun, Oak Trees, Flowers, Fae
Colours - White, Red, Yellow, Blue, Tan
Gemstones - All Green Gemstones (especially jade and emerald), Tigerseye, Diamond
Herbs - Chamomile, Mugwart, Pine, Oak, Elder, Frankencense, Hemp, Lavender, Lemon, Sandalwood, Thyme, Ylang-Ylang, Vervain, St. John's Wort
Dieties - All Sun Dieties, Hestia (Greek), Juno (Roman), Aten (Egypt), Apollo (Greek)

The next few days are days of much power.  Following Summer Solstice, is a Super Moon.   Blessings to all my readers at this magickal time!

KWW: A Fairy Good Lunch

I love Bento Lunches - perhaps not the authentic Japanese style, but the cute, kid-friendly version.  The whole idea of them makes me smile.  If you are unfamiliar with the concept of Bentos, take a look at my pinterest board - lots of great ideas there!

Today, I bring you a fairy-theme bento.  I just love that little snail!!  For more info about this lunch and a tutorial on how to make it, please visit this page.

Happy dining :)

Post-it Tuesday: Herb List

Last year my herbs took a place in the back-burner of my life.  As did many things when my family fell apart.  All in all, that experience has made me a stronger person and has strengthened the bond between my children and I.
However, my poor herb garden did suffer and this season it will take alot of work to get it back to the glorious state it once was.  I think the only herbs that survived the "neglect" were my lemon balm, chocolate mint and chives.  I am really beginning to think those three plants would even survive a nuclear holocaust.   Here is my list of other plants I will "replant" this year.  What is going in your herb garden?

If you want to play along, I have made a button that you can grab (below).  Please make the post-its witchy related in some way - a spell, chant... herb wishlist... anything - Be creative!!  Don't forget to pop over HERE to make your sticky notes.

Here's the button code if you would like to grab it to link back:

A Magickal Place

The Nature Park - about a 2 minute walk from our home - has always been a magickal place for the Witchlets and I.  While walking the trails we have discovered "Faery Grove", "Faery Tree", "Troll Bridge", "Green Man Tree", "Narnia", "Meditation Tree", and "Witchy Tree" (pictured).  With the exception of Troll Bridge, the Witchlets have named all of these locations and they all have a special meaning.  This spring (assuming I can find a working camera) I hope to take more pictures of these magickal places.

Pictured is "Witchy Tree".  My sister and I used to come to this tree for much of our spell work.  There is something uniquely beautiful about this tree and its calming presence.

Where are your favourite magickal locations, Witchy Readers?

Blessed Ostara 2013

I wish I could say that this cute little bunny was the sight from my window.  I wish I could say that grass was greening and spring flowers were beginning to blossom.  I wish I could, but in Ontario Canada, we were blasted with another dusting of snow last night.  Not much, perhaps an inch or so; but enough to squash my hopes of getting into the garden soon.

Blessed Ostara, my witchy readers.  This Sabbat has really snuck up on me.  I have been surfing Pinterest for exciting and crafty things to do with the Witchlets, and it only occured to me this morning that TODAY was Ostara *face palm*

I had also started writing the new Ostara Issue of the Ezine... looks like it will be a "spring Issue" instead.  I'm not sure what it is about 2013, but I seem to lose track of time quickly, and the time change was less than helpful - it really has thrown me off.  Anyone else having this problem?

I had hoped to get some more personal pictures for the blog this morning... but when I turn my camera on, printed across the screen is "lens failure".  That can't be good.

My Witchy friends, what does your loaction look like this blessed Ostara?  Please feel free to share any pics or updates on my Facebook Fan page - I'd love to hear from you!

Know thy Goddess: Yemanya

On my Facebook Page, I have started doing a Goddess of the Week segment, so I thought I would continue it here, a little more in depth.

I consulted my Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards to choose a Goddess.

Yemanya is an African/Brazillian Goddess who is credited with creating the sea. She is a protector, a supplier and one who grants wishes.  At her celebration on December 31st, her worshippers arrive at shorelines dressed in white and launch little boats loaded with flowers, candles, and gifts.  If Yemanya grants your wish or accepts your offering , her waves will swallow the miniature boat, and if she denies the wish the boat will return and wash ashore. It is said that those who come to Mother Yemanya and surrender to her find that their troubles dissolve in the waters of her embrace.

Sensing Yemanya in your life means it is time to surrender.  Please note, this is not a time to give up, but rather ask for assistance. The act of surrendering is one of opening and trust. When we open and trust, we allow Goddess energy to work with us to achieve what we need.

Yemanya's Message:
Important Doors are opening for you right now. Walk through them.   Like the oceans waves, timing is everything, so when the opportunity presents itself dive in at that moment and allow your doubts to be washed away!

A Thousand Words...

A picture is worth a thousand words...
okay... maybe this pic isn't "silent" per se, but it's nice to see that people in the lime light are not afraid to acknowledge his path...
