The Harvest Moon

I can't believe I forgot to post this yesterday!
The days are just getting away from me!
I hope everyone had a blessed Esbat.

The September full moon is known as the Harvest, Barley or Wine Moon. This is a time of balance. It is an excellent time to do magickal workings dealing with spiritual and/or physical health. It is a time to rejoice with the harvests of the season and celebrate the bounties of the fields. Honour the autumn/harvest Dieties such as Freyja and Demeter and prepare your home for the upcoming winter months.

On a side note... it's finally time again -- keep your eyes peeled for the next Confessions GIVE-AWAY contest... I'm still debating on what will be up for grabs, but I am pretty excited about this give-away!

Lovin' Fall!

I love Fall... and Samhain!
I can't wait for the witchlets to head back to school because that means it's time to start Autumn decorating!

I've gotten a few things out already...

A crone broom to welcome all guests at the front door...
A besom is the symbolic of Samhain. Althought this is purely ornamental, a wtich's besom is generally used to purify a space; to sweep out negativivty.

My first jack-o-lantern of the season! This little tea light sits atop my tea shelf... Have you ever heard of "Jack's Story"?? Interesting Jack-o-Lantern lore. Looking at this picture, I have decided that I need to invest in an autumn tea pot, the purple/pink florals just do not seem to portray an autumn atmosphere.

And here is my favourite piece thus far...
My harvest "centerpiece" which is not in the center of anything!
My little scarecrow beside a spider bucket of flowers, adorned with orange and purple beads.

On a side note, are you a thrifty witch like me? I try to save money where ever I can. All of my Samhain/autumn decorations are from teh Dollar Store!!!

P.S. FireLyte... loved your decorations!! Hope you like seeing mine as well!

Kooky Kitty -- Basket Case

I've decided to start adding pictures of my crazy kitty, Onyx's adventures...

Onyx seems to have taken a liking to my new basket... I planned on making a fall center-piece out of this...

The Black Cat

Every true witch needs a black, right??
Well, meet Onyx; the newest addition to our household.
Little Onyx is quite the mischevious one - he is into everything... I am dreading the day he discovers the herb cabinet!!

So what is it about black cats that associated them with witches??
It is believed that our furry little friends are a wtich's familar or even a witch incarnate! These superstitions started in the middle ages and believe it or not, still continue today.

What exactly is a familiar?
A familiar, according to dictionary.com is a demon or supernatural being supposedly attending a witch, often said to assume the form of an animal. While many Christians (or non-pagans) believe that a witch's familiar is a demon in disguise, this is quite the contrary... familiars are more like a mini Pagan guardian angel concept. He or she can often be the witch's closest companion, offering moral support, special knowledge, and/or physical healing. Familiars are even said to have powers of their own.

Why a black cat??
Have you ever wondered why a black cat is a stereotypical familiar representation? Why not an ordinary tabby or an orange cat? The answer is quite simple... cats are generally noctural by nature. During the Burning Times (and thereafter), it became necessary to keep witchcraft hidden, and black cats, due to their ability to remain unseen in dark places and at night, were considered especially desirable partners for witches.

Podosphere Here I Come!

My sister and I have started a Pagan Podcast.
It's a funny little podcast, about nothing in general.
I would LOVE for you to have a listen... and tell your friends!
Our show is completely UNSCRIPTED and amateurly edited... good for some laughs I hope!
